Michiana deals with snowy weather

Posted:

The snow was falling all day Wednesday in Michiana. It created a beautiful snowy scene to enjoy.  But with that, also came some treacherous driving conditions

South Bend Street Department Manager John Pemberton Jr. said all 35 of the city's plow trucks were out all day, starting very early Wednesday morning. They'll continue to be out there until all the roads are safe.

"It's been pretty busy," said Pemberton Jr. "Basically the snow started pretty early, so we had to get streets safe for that early morning traffic.  Guys (have) been out putting material down, pre-treated streets early this morning."

Pemberton Jr. said they have several people working overtime.  "We're working round the clock till everything gets done and we feel it's safe enough to go back to standard operations."

And they're using all of their resources.  "Every single truck that has a plow is definitely out on the road right now and will be as of, till tomorrow morning," said Pemberton Jr.

Pemberton predicts the plows will have the snow cleared from the roads for your morning commute Thursday.  Welcome news to people like Kellie Holycross.  "I absolutely despise like being out in it, walking in it, cleaning off my car, I don't like any of that," said Holycross.

But she doesn't completely hate snow.  "If I can just be inside and look out the window than I'm absolutely fine with it," said Holycross.

If the South Bend Chocolate Cafe is any indication, a lot of other people enjoy watching the snow too.  District Manager Nisa Buller said,  "a lot of people sitting more at the tables looking out the windows.  The window tables have been full all day "

Buller said the window seats weren't the only popular thing at the cafe Wednesday.  "We've moved a lot of hot chocolate today."

Probably because patrons said nothing goes better together than hot chocolate and cold weather.  "It's the perfect thing for a snow day," said Holycross.

And the perfect thing to warm up before you get back out on the road.
