FCC Chair says rescinding in-flight phone ban would be "the responsible thing to do."

The FCC voted Thursday to review the rules concerning in-flight cell phone calls on planes.  The chairman says there are no longer any technical reasons to ban the calls, and rescinding the ban "would be the responsible thing to do."

So what do you think?  Would you make an in-flight call to check in on family or to close a business deal on the phone in the middle of a flight?

We asked travelers at South Bend Airport.

"I'm not happy with it at all, not at all," says Phoenix Mourningstar.  "I think it's going to be fine for safety, but it's just going to be really annoying."

Daniel Schleig still worries about safety.  "I work in computers and IT so I'd want to know more about the kind of electronics that go behind it to see if it actually interferes," he says.

"I don't really feel like I would even need to make a phone call. I guess if someone wanted to call me during a flight to see how it was going I would accept it, but I would try to keep it really brief," traveler Calvin Cook says.

Robert Britton calls it a mixed blessing.  "There really isn't any real good reason why not, however if you're sitting next to the person that's very talkative it could be quite annoying."
