South Bend Mayor forming youth task force

Sometimes the best ideas on how to improve a community don't come from adults, instead they come from the minds of teenagers!

That's why Mayor Pete Buttigieg is forming the South Bend Youth Task Force.

It will be a volunteer community service program made up of about 15 9th through 12th graders.

The group will start meeting later this year to set an agenda on how to make South Bend a better place to live.

"We want to gather young people at the table in this task force and ask them, 'What do you think we need to be focusing on?'  What they come back with will then be the basis for a town hall for a broader forum that we'll stage at the end of next year," says Buttigieg.

The city is collecting applications until January 13th.
