Reward offered in case of neglected dogs in St. Joe County

It's a disturbing case of animal abuse in St. Joseph County.

The Humane Society says two dogs were dumped on Currant road.

When they responded, one had taken off. The other, a Shaw-Pei mix, was dead from starvation.

Dr. Carol Ecker says they're offering a $1,000 reward to anyone with information leading to a conviction of the person or persons who abused the animal.

"We want to catch these people that do this.  I don't think people understand these are living beings who have feelings, who suffer pain and just to leave a dog out there dying or dead in the snow starving to death is not acceptable," says Ecker.

Dr. Ecker pleads with the public: If you're ever unable to take care of a pet, don't dump it.

Take it to the Humane Society.

They'll do their best to help the animal.
