"Hall of Heroes" gets national attention on "Toy Hunter"

Posted:

Elkhart had a celebrity appearance Wednesday.

Jordan Hembrough from the Travel Channel's show "Toy Hunter" was in town, checking out Elkhart's very own "Hall of Heroes" museum.

Jordan tours the country in search of vintage toys and collectible's, bargaining with their owners to buy them. But instead of buying a collector's item from the "Hall of Heroes", he was actually giving a gift.

Owner of the museum, Allen Stewart said it all started back in April when he and Jordan met at a comic conference.

Stewart says, "The network (Travel Channel) contacted me and said, 'Hey, send us things you're looking for the museum. We did that. Jordan has brought some of those things today. I don't know what they are. They're going to surprise me on air."

We won't find out what the secret gifts are until the "Toy Hunter" Season 3 episodes start airing on January 29th.

FOX28's Faran Fronczak took advantage of the opportunity to pick the "Toy Hunter's" brain and find out how you can cash in on some of those toys buried in the basement, and she found out, even she could cash in!

Jordan says, "You want to make sure the toy's in the package. Now I know that's a really tall order for toys that are maybe 20, 50 years old, but you want to see if they're in the packages, and if they are, chances are you've got some money there."

Jordan adds the Internet is your best friend when it comes to looking up prices for your collectibles. "Use a search engine. Go to auction web sites. Key in what you have. Take a look at what the items are selling for," he says.

On the show, you see exactly how Jordan prices vintage collectible's. One thing that can make or break your toy sale is its condition.

The expert says, "Make sure you go to completed auctions and find out what they sold for. Because anybody can ask any number they want. But you want to find out and ascertain what the true market value is."

Jordan says you also want to check to see if they belong to a major franchise like Batman or Superman, or if your toys were from a famous TV show. Even  music groups.

Now if you still have questions or want to ask Jordan yourself, the Travel Channel's web site has a page where you can have your toy rated. For the web site, click here.
