South Bend Police seeing spike in robberies

Posted:

South Bend Police have seen an increase in robberies all year, and the department says recently, there's really been an uptick.

It's something police expect this time of year as people are looking for a little extra cash close to the holidays.

The police department encourages everyone to make sure to have someone with them at all times.

"The one thing that is still difficult to get over when you're reading these reports, is how little money there is to be had in these robberies. These people are putting themselves and others in great amount of risk, for just a few dollars," says Captain Phil Trent with SBPD.

Police have stepped up enforcement, especially in commercial areas.

They have been able to make some arrests in these cases.
