More than 100 people gather to remember murdered Elkhart teen

More than 100 people gathered on Christmas Eve at the Prairie Street Mennonite Church in Elkhart, to remember 18-year-old murder victim Devonte Patrick.

They held candles as they walked from the church to the parking lot where Patrick was shot Tuesday afternoon.

"He was a well rounded kid," said Patrick's cousin Anthony Riley.  "He loved to play basketball, loved listening to music and hanging with his brothers.  It's just sad his life was taken for no reason."

Riley says Patrick had hopes of making it big in the music industry as a rapper.

Elkhart Police continue to search for the killer or killers, as the community looks for solutions to curb the violence.

"It's sad that it takes a tragedy to get us together this way," said Lead Pastor Nelson Kraybill during the vigil.  "It's amazingly heartwarming to worship with people I've never met before and realize we share a deep bond this evening in grief, and we also share a deep bond in the hope we have in Jesus."
