Elkhart Christmas tree recycling

Posted:

Curbside pick-up for Elkhart residents who wish to recycle their used natural Christmas trees starts on Jan. 6 and will take place from Monday through Friday for two weeks. The Elkhart City Forester is asking residents to not bag the trees or place them in trash and to try to strip all foreign objects off (such as ornaments) before setting them out.

Also, while residents are asked to leave the trees by the curb, the Forester requests that trees are kept out of the street.

For those that would rather not wait for their trees to be picked up, five separate drop-off sites are available. There is a year-round drop-off site at 1730 Toledo Rd, which is open from 8:00am to 2:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Starting on Jan. 6, four temporary drop-off sites will open up with the same hours. They will be located in the parking lots of West Side Middle School, North Side Middle School, Riverview Softball Field and Pierre Moran Pool. Their availability will coincide with the curbside pick-up service.
