Families enjoy snow on New Year's Day

Posted:

What do you do on a holiday when it's snowing? Embrace it! That's what families across Michiana were doing Wednesday.

The Mishler family spent their New Year's Day holiday making trips up and down the sledding hill in Elkhart.

"It was just a perfect day to go sledding, so we packed everyone up and headed on out," says Tammy Mishler.

They weren't the only family with that idea. Sledding hills were pretty busy Wednesday with folks enjoying all that fresh snow.

"It's just a fun thing to do as a family. Get out, get active, try to not just be stuck inside," says Mishler.

Families also headed out to Swiss Valley for a little fun on the slopes.

"Today is the first day of 2014 and we're happy and excited to be here and we have all this great snow to usher it in," says Swiss Valley Marketing Director, Jamie Stafne.

The ski and snowboarding area says all the snow is packing the hills.

"People are seeing the snow on their windowsill. They're thinking of skiing. They're thinking about snowboarding. The snow just has everybody in the spirit of winter," says Stafne.

Skiers and snowboarders say there's no better way to spend a snowy, New Year's holiday.

"I love this place. The people, the snow, it's always great!" says snowboarder, Colin Barnes.

Families say, if you can't beat the snow, you might as well join it - and start 2014 with a little fun!
