Snow means winter activities at St. Joseph County Parks

While the snow has made a mess of area roads, it does mean people can have some winter fun at St. Joseph County Parks.

The tubing hills, cross country skiing and snowshoe rentals will be open Friday through Sunday.

Tubing hills are located at both Ferrettie-Baugo Creek in Osceola and St. Patrick's County Park in South Bend. The hills, which are open from 11am-5pm, feature warming shelters. Light snacks are also available for purchase. Admission is $3 and includes use of an innertube. After January 5, the hills will be open on weekends, provided there is enough snow.

Cross country ski rental is available at St. Patrick's County Park from 11am-4pm. The park has over 5 miles of groomed trails. Some have a track for classic skiing, trails on the west side of the park are groomed for skate skiing. A trail pass is $4 for adults and $3 for kids 15 and younger. Rental equipment is $10.

Snowshoe rental is available at Ferrettie Baugo Creek County Park from 11am-4pm for $3 a person.

After January 5, cross country ski and snowshoe rentals will be available Wednesday through Sunday from 11am-4pm, snow conditions permitting.

The rental fees are on top of entrance fees of $3 for St. Joseph County vehicles and $4 for out of county vehicles.
