Make sure snow doesn't stop emergency responders from helping you

Even if you aren't hitting the roads in snowy weather, there are some things you should do at home to stay safe.

You never know when you might have an emergency, so make sure the address on your mailbox isn't covered by snow.  That way emergency responders can find you.

Also, if you have a fire hydrant in your yard, clear the area around it.

And when you're shoveling don't just shovel by your front door, also shovel a second way in and out of your home, like the back door.  "The little extra time you take to shovel off a deck and back door and steps is not only going to benefit you as far as you getting out but it benefits you as far as us being able to get in and assist you," said Dave Cherrone with Clay Fire Territory.

Another tip from Cherrone, take it easy when shoveling snow and take breaks if you need to.
