South Bend airport makes donation to veteran's center

Posted:

The South Bend Airport presented a $6,000 check to the Robert L. Miller Sr., Veteran's Center Friday.

The money was raised during their recent Bears in the Air campaign.

Kent Lauderman, Director of the Veteran's Center, says this check will be able to help many of his residents in many different ways.  "Where ever the first need comes up," Lauderman said. "In terms of education, employment, moving into permanent housing, that is where we are going to start doing that."

This is the second year the program has donated to the Veteran's Center.  Last year, the airport was able to present a $5,000 check.

Along with the money, the Bears in the Air program also donated hundreds of teddy bears for children at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

The airport says the Bears in the Air program will continue as an annual event. A new nonprofit organization will be chosen as the recipient of the cash donations from the 2014 campaign.
