Indiana health officials reported Friday that 3 people have now died in the state from influenza.

On Thursday, St. Joseph County health officials reported one person in the county has died from the H1N1 flu.

The most recent flu activity map from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows Indiana is seeing widespread flu cases.

"Flu activity is increasing around the state," said Dr. VanNess, Indiana State Health Commissioner. "The recent deaths remind us that influenza can be very serious and even deadly. I encourage all Hoosiers to become vaccinated from flu to protect themselves, their families and the community."

State health officials recommend the flu vaccine for anyone 6 months of age or older, especially those with a higher risk of complications.
