Teens have a free, warm place to stay during cold weather

In these frigid temps sleeping outside could be deadly.  That's why the Youth Service Bureau of St. Joseph County wants everyone to know they have a free shelter for any teens who need a place to stay.

The shelter is open all year round but Bureau Director of Community Connections, Christina McGovern, said now more than ever it's important to get youth off the street.  "There's never never a safe time to be on the streets but especially when it's this cold it can certainly be deadly and we want to make sure people know don't spend a night on the street, there are places that you can call and places you can go to get connected with help."

Teens can stay at the shelter for free for up to 21 days.  The Shelter is on Lincolnway East between Twyckenham and Miami or you can get connected with the shelter by visiting a "safe place."

There are 135 safe places in St. Joseph County that teens can go to if they need emergency shelter.  They are all South Bend and township fire stations, all area Burger King restaurants, Kroger Stores, St. Joseph County Public library, and all 66 Transpo busses.
