UPDATE: LaGrange County will start citing drivers at 4:00 p.m.

LaGrange County says they will start citing drivers who are still on the road starting at 4:00 p.m.

The county has extended their Emergency Travel Warning "indefinitely." Despite the extension, the county says they have encountered many dangerous situations with drivers that should not be on the road.

Earlier, the LaGrange County Highway Department reported drifting snow and low visibility due to blowing snow is hampering their efforts to remove snow from roadways.

Only emergency travel is exempt from the travel warning. The county says that includes those providing medical assistance, Law Enforcement, Fire Department, Emergency management, Public utility, all fuel hauling vehicles and any employees of the aforementioned services while engaging in their official duties.

The county is asking people not to call LaGrange County Communications or 911 to ask if they can drive to work.

Earlier in the morning, the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department reported "countless number of vehicles" were stranded as a result of the snow.

The biggest issue the department is seeing is that there are people on the roads who have no business being there. The department says this not only puts emergency workers at risk, but also slows progress on opening roads. They're asking anyone who may have abandoned their car to contact them at 260-463-7491.

The County Highway Department is attempting to get employees in to work so they can start working on East-West roads in the county. Along with trying to get employees, the Highway Department and Sheriff's Department assisted getting a Doctor to a local hospital.

The department says they will be using local fire departments as warming stations for stranded motorists and for people who lose power. No power outages are currently being reported.

LaGrange County is under a Snow Emergency, which is scheduled to expire at Noon Monday. The Sheriff's Department say the declaration will be re-evaluated and updated prior to that time.
