Cass County remains under State of Emergency

Posted:

Cass County Road Commission manager, Christopher Bolt, reports that crews have been
out in full force since early this morning. Plowing efforts yesterday and today have been
focused primarily on main roads throughout the county. Unfortunately, heavy winds and
blowing snow are drifting and blocking roads shortly after plows pass.

The sustained lake effect snow accumulation, sub-zero temperatures, and windy
conditions are hampering overall progress on plowing efforts. Additional problems relate
to safety concerns and delays as plows encounter stranded vehicles within the roadway.

A Local State of Emergency was declared for Cass County at 1:00 AM on Monday,
January 6th, and submitted to the Michigan State Police Emergency Management
Division. Travel throughout the county is very hazardous, and the road commission joins
with Sheriff Joseph Underwood, Jr. in asking that all motoring public stay off the
roadways in Cass County unless absolutely necessary.

Residents should note that crews are diligently working to clear snow from the roads,
with continued focus on primary and local roadways. Given that the current forecast
includes continued heavy winds and cold temperatures, area residents should note that
subdivisions, lakes area neighborhoods, and some local roads are not likely to get plowed
until at least Wednesday, depending on continued weather developments.

Release from Cass County Road Commission.
