South Bend running out of places to put snow

It's a problem we see occasionally in South Bend. The city says it is running out of places to put snow in downtown.

The city has closed Jefferson Boulevard between Lafayette and Main Street so it has some place to go. It will later be trucked to city owned property where it can melt when things warm up.

While there are issues downtown, the situation is looking better in most of the city. Mayor Pete Buttigieg checked in with road crews Monday evening to thank them for their hard work.

"I think here in South Bend we've gotten used to an extremely high standard of snow removal," says Buttigieg. "But in these temps, nothing works the way it normally does.  Even salt doesn't really work at all with these temps, so these guys have an extra hard job and we're really thankful for the work they do."

Mayor Buttigieg says plows have gotten to most primary and secondary roads in the city, so crews can now work on side streets. It still might take a while, up to 36 hours.
