UPDATE: Weather emergencies lifting in parts of Michiana

Posted: Updated:

Official restrictions on drivers are beginning to lift in some Northern Indiana and Southwestern Michigan Counties almost 48 hours after the first emergency declarations were sent out.

St. Joseph and Marshall Counties are allowing drivers back on the road.  St. Joe reduced their status to an "Advisory Level. at noon on Tuesday.  That is the lowest level of alert, meaning that routine travel is allowed, but could be restricted in some places due to hazardous situations.  Drivers are still urged to use caution when traveling.

Marshall County also lifted their "Warning Level" emergency status at noon.  They are also asking drivers to be alert, though.  "Please slow down, always wearing your seat belt, increase your following distance, and avoiding distractions like texting or talking on a cell phone." said Marshall County Commissioners in a written statement.

Kosciusko, Fulton, Elkhart, and Pulaski Counties have lifted their emergency statuses, enabling drivers to travel there as well.

LaPorte and LaGrange Counties moved their statuses to a "watch.".  A watch means conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. Only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, but not required.
