Planning for MLK events are underway in South Bend

Planning is well underway for South Bend's 28th annual observation of Martin Luther King Jr. day, Monday January 20th.  Events are planned through out the day, beginning with their traditional breakfast at the Century Center.  Events are aimed at youth and adults alike.

Chairperson for the Martin Luther King Foundation of St. Joseph County, Gladys Muhammad-Ward encourages everyone to get involved in the days activities.  "It is the bringing of people together, the whole community, to celebrate the works of Dr. Martin Luther King," Muhammad-Ward said, "to show that we can work together through anything.  It's a day of peace, and it's a day of love, and to talk about the values that Dr. King put out there."

There are two new work shops at this years event.  One is entitled, Don't Shoot!, Understanding South Bend's Violence Reduction Strategy, which takes place from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m.  The second is entitled Under Educated, Over Incarcerated, which takes place from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m.
