Goshen looking for a facelift

Posted:

Goshen is looking to give the city a facelift throughout the next 10 years, and city officials are asking residents for their input. The American Planning Association has selected Goshen and ten other pilot communities to develop economic growth plans. Goshen will work nationally with the APA as they draft and evaluate the city as it is today. Some areas Goshen is looking to redevelop are renovations to historic buildings and revamping buildings to make them go green.

Abby Wiles, Assistant Planner to the City of Goshen says residents don't have to worry about their voice not being heard. She says, "All of their input has been made public. We're going to actively work to integrate the input we receive into the plan. It's not just going to be collected and just put into a file."

The first of four public meetings happened Thursday.  There residents evaluated different areas of Goshen. This economic development planning is being done completely in house rather than hiring a planning firm.

The following three public meetings are scheduled for:

Economic Development and Redevelopment - Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m., Chamber of Commerce, 232 S. Main Street

People, Neighborhoods and Housing - Thursday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m., Rieth Interpretive Center, 410 W. Plymouth Avenue

Land Use, Infrastructure and Transportation - Monday, march 24 at 6:30 p.m., Goshen Pubic Library, 601 S. Fifth Street
