South Shore line seeing less riders

For the sixth year in a row the South Shore line is seeing less riders.  The line says it boarded 3.61 million passengers in 2013 between South Bend and Chicago.

That's a 1.7% decrease from 2012.   South Shore officials say the drop is partly because fewer riders are going to festivals and other entertainment in Chicago.

We talked to some South Shore riders Friday who appreciate having the train as an option.  "I'm from California. So I'm here, not wanting to rent a car, not wanting to drive in the show and weather. So this was easy. I was able to top on a train and get there," said Roberto Orozco.

Andrea Conroy said, "I've never driven to Chicago, so I'm happy to have this here as an option."

The South Shore had 4.25 million riders in 2007 before the declines began.
