Melting causing slick road conditions

After a deep freeze, Michiana is melting, and that's making for tricky driving conditions.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department is asking drivers to slow down!

There's been a lot of melting going on, leaving ponding on roads.

Even with the warmer temps, there are still some icy conditions.

The Sheriff's Department responded to 12 crashes Saturday morning and afternoon because of slick roads.

Ice will continue to be a problem as temperatures drop overnight.

"With the potholes now created from the freeze and the thaw there's some other driving hazards that have been created through out the winter storm here. So just being careful and being aware of your surroundings and aware of where you are and being very careful that there will be some ice this evening," says Michael Pennington with Elkhart County Emergency Management.

Highway crews are out putting down salt and sand, but police are still asking drivers to be cautious and slow down!
