South Bend Council to take up gay marriage resolution

The South Bend Common Council is set to take up a resolution tomorrow on the issue of gay marriage.

Councilman Tim Scott is sponsoring a resolution that essentially sends a message down-state.

The resolution asks the state legislature reject a proposed constitutional amendment that defines marriage as only between a man and a woman, basically banning gay marriage.

Folks against the ban, including Mayor Pete Buttigieg, have said a ban isn't good for the city, because it's telling people they are not welcome.

Buttigieg says Indiana's constitution exists to protect rights and freedoms, not take them away.

The Common Council will take up the resolution at its meeting Monday at 7:00pm.
