Man dies in Elkhart County crash after being thrown from his vehicle

An Elkhart County man is dead after succumbing to the injuries suffered when he was thrown from his vehicle in a Monday night one-car accident.

The accident took place at 10:15 p.m. when Jerry Miller, 22, lost control of his Chevrolet minivan on an icy stretch of County Road 37, north of County Road 38, veered off the east side of the road and struck a tree.

MedFlight was called in to take Miller to the hospital after he crashed near Millersburg and sustained severe head injuries. Miller was thrown from the car upon impact, as police report that he was not wearing his seat belt.

Miller was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries, but passed away at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Elkhart County Sheriff office is still investigating the accident.
