Victim's family speaks with FOX28's Faran Fronczak

Krystle Dikes was working at the Martin's on Bristol Street when the gunman, Shawn Bair, entered the supermarket and began shooting. I met with two of the family members of the 20-year-old who was gunned down Wednesday night at the Martin's Supermarket in Elkhart.

Heather Dikes is the younger sister of Krystle. Alongside her was her uncle, who would not give his name. Heather and her uncle stopped at the mother of Krystle's home to grab personal items, because the family is staying with friends for the time being.

Krystle's uncle told me the family is deeply saddened at this tragedy, and never imagined this happening so close to home. He told me they're still in complete shock at the events that unfolded Wednesday evening. The family plans to be together during this difficult time.

Heather remained very quiet.

Krystle's step sister Melissa Whitacre posted a statement on her Facebook page. Heather wrote, "While we had been close in the past, we had drifted and the last conversation I had with her was an argument about how I was unhappy with her life choices at the time. Since then she had been doing really well... Take this as a note that you never know what conversation you have with people could be their last. Please treat others with the utmost respect and kindness and be sure to tell them you love them."

They know a lot of veterans are in the area and wanted to get their stories on file, so the museum asked local high schools students to make it happen.
