UPDATE: Parents speak about death of Krystle Dikes

Posted:

The parents of Krystle Dikes gathered at the First Baptist Church in Elkhart as they spoke to the public for the first time since the death of their daughter at the Martin's Super Market shooting on January 16th.

In attendance were Krystle's father, Shaun Dikes, mother, Juanita Whitacre, stepmother Charlotte Dikes, and stepfather David Whitacre.

The parents said thousands of messages from emails, text messages, phone calls and Facebook messages from family, friends and strangers from all over the world have reached them.

The family used the time to share who Krystle Dikes was as a person. They all described her as a giver who would try to help anyone, even if there was nothing she could do.

"She was strong, free-willed, and proudly marched to her own tune," Shaun Dikes said.

"She took to people who had problems and tried to help them," Juaninta Whitacre said.

"She was there for them in their hour of need."

As reported before, Krystle was an organ donor and in addition would donate blood once a month.

Juanita Whitacre shared that she had lunch with her daughter at Martin's Super Market deli the day of the shooting. She dropped her off at the apartment of the friend she was staying with and said that was the last time she saw her daughter.

Charlotte Dikes said that moving on did not have an exact date, that process was a moment to moment basis.

"They say time heal all wounds," Charlotte Dikes said.

"This is a wound that will never be healed."

Shaun Dikes took the time to thank the Elkhart police. He called the officer heroes.

"They courageously risked their lives so that more families don't have to feel our pain," he said.

Krystle moved from Muncie where she worked for her brother to Elkhart for work. Her parents said she was excited to work for Martin's Super Market.

Shaun Dikes's grandmother was in possession of a wedding dress. There was no wedding in Krystle's future but was still purchased. Shaun Dikes's stepdaughter will be getting married and she will wear that dress. He said this was a way for Krystle to be a part of the wedding.

The parents said they were unaware of any relation that their daughter had with Shawn Bair, the gunman.

Make a statement with the Summer 2014 hair and makeup trends

Makeup at the Summer 2014 fashion shows wasn't what you'd normally expect. Usually models sport bold eye-shadows, thick black eyeliner, and bronzed sun-kissed skin. This year... makeup and hair made a statement on the runway with what they're calling the "Raw Beauty" look. The summer look is a subtle one - milky golds, ivories, and pale hues for eye shadows. It's almost that look of not even looking like you have makeup on. When it comes to hair, the look is called "effortless elegance", whe...More >>
