Vigil organizer to deliver written messages to shooting victims

The community is taking steps towards healing, after a devastating tragedy at a neighborhood super market.

There was an impressive outpouring of support for the victim's in the Martin's Super Market shooting Saturday night. We estimate as many as 500 people came out in the cold and snow for a candlelight vigil.

Police say employee Krystle Dikes and customer Rachelle Godfread were shot and killed by Shawn Bair, before police returned fire at the store on East Bristol, Wednesday night.

We visited the store Sunday to see some of the messages members of the community left to show their support.

One person said, "May you rest in peace and never be forgotten."

Another wrote, "Elkhart strong, God bless."

An organizer told us why the picture boards were made.

"It gave the community a chance to say what they wanted to say to the families without everybody having to keep reminding them of it. Everybody doing it one by one might just take a little time. This way they have something as a keepsake," says Wallace Henderson.

Henderson tells us now that the vigil is over, the pictures will be returned to Allegra Print.

The company will laminate them for free and deliver the pictures to the families this week.
