Martin Luther King Junior events scheduled in South Bend

Monday is a holiday for many people. It's Martin Luther King Junior day.

There's no school for students and many city and county offices and businesses are closed.

There are also a number of events in Michiana Monday to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.

Reverend John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., president of the University of Notre Dame, will preside at a prayer service from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m  in the Rotunda of the Main Building.

South Bend Heritage will join the Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation of St. Joseph County to present the 28th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.

Highlights of the Celebration include the Community Service Recognition Breakfast, the Memorial March, beginning at the County-City Building at 11:30am, and the Youth Program.


Two special workshops this year include:

9:30- 11:00 a.m.
Don't Shoot: Understanding South Bend?s Violence Reduction Strategy
Century Center / Recital Hall


1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
Under Educated, Over Incarcerated - The State of Black Youth in the
Education System
Century Center / Recital Hall

There will be an MLK celebration concert organized by the South Bend Symphony at IU South Bend at 7:00pm.
