People take to the street to honor Martin Luther King

The streets were full of people marching Monday afternoon in downtown South Bend.  The annual Memorial March began at the County City Building and made its way down to the Century Center.  There were drummers to help lead the way, along with a drill team.  Many of the marchers also carried signs as they made their way through the downtown.

One participant, Joanne Donaldson said it was important to bring her grandchildren to the march.  "It is important that they know their history," Donaldson said, "It is important that they know about Dr. Martin Luther King, and it is important that they know the struggle still continues."

South Bend Mayor, Pete Buttigieg said he is excited to see residents take part in today's events.  "I am proud of South Bend for the way people don't just sit at home," Buttigieg said, "because it is a day off, it is a day on, and people come to formative sessions at the Century Center, folks undertake certain service activities, I think that is the way Dr. King would want to be honored."
