Officials have identify the suspected Purdue University shooter as 23-year-old Cody M. Cousins.  Police believe Cousins shot and killed 21-year-old Andrew Boldt.  Cousins has a Warsaw address along with an Ohio one.  Although police say they have an address for him in Warsaw, the Superintendent of Warsaw Community Schools tells FOX28, Cousins was not a student in their school corporation.

The shooting happened in the basement of the Electrical Engineering Building just after Noon on Tuesday.  Police said in a news conference that they believe Boldt was specifically targeted.  Cousins reportedly surrendered to police following the shooting.

Boldt was a senior at Purdue, and a teaching assistant.  Cousins is an engineering student.

Governor Pence issued the following statement:

Today's shooting at Purdue University is a tragedy, and our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the victim and to everyone in the Purdue community. I commend the professionalism of the Purdue University Police Department in apprehending the suspect and bringing the situation to a swift conclusion. The Indiana State Police are on the scene and will continue to assist local law enforcement with the ongoing investigation.

People on campus were told to shelter in place during the police response.  The campus returned to normal operations, with the exception of the Electrical Engineering Building, about an hour after the shooting.

Purdue has canceled classes through Wednesday.  Students are also being offered counseling services if they would like, and a candlelight vigil will be held Tuesday night.

University of Notre Dame president Rev. John Jenkins, C.S.C., also released a statement following the shooting:

On behalf of the entire Notre Dame family, I offer our prayers for and condolences to our friends and colleagues at Purdue and all who have been personally touched by today's tragedy.

A priest at Boldt's hometown parish, Father Nathan Reesman of St. Frances Cabrini Parish, released a statement Tuesday:

"The Boldt Family has been in contact with the parish and has asked for their privacy at   this  time. They are truly grateful for everyone's prayers and support... Please continue to offer your prayers for everyone who grieves."
