Senator Coats visits SB to share 2014 priorities

Senator Dan Coats was in South Bend Wednesday talking priorities for 2014.

Coats says his number one issue is to protect Hoosiers from the affects of Obamacare.  He also wants to repeal the medical device tax which he says is costing Indiana thousands of jobs.

Coats says he has support from his colleagues in Congress.

"79 members of the United States Senate, 24 Democrats and 45 Republicans have voted to repeal this, and so this is something that we can move forward on because its an aggregious tax," says Coats.

Coats was asked about the recent shootings in Indiana.

He said there was a mental health element to the shootings and doesn't know if there is legislation that can fix the issue.

"Tragic news out of Elkhart and out of West Lafayette yesterday and we see it happening around the country so I do think we need to look at what is missing here but also understanding that there is not one piece of legislation that you can enact, it might make you feel good but it won't solve the problem," says Coats.

Coats plans on traveling across Indiana to spread his message for 2014.
