South Shore busing passengers between South Bend & Michigan City Monday

Posted:

News Release From NICTD:

This week we plan to operate weekday train service between Michigan City and Chicago.

Until temperatures moderate passengers should anticipate weather related delays between Michigan City and Chicago and plan their trip accordingly. Prolonged sub-zero temperatures will place an extraordinary strain on mechanical and track systems.

From January 27-29 we will temporarily bus passengers between South Bend and Michigan City as a precaution due to sub-zero temperatures. Because of low passenger volumes we will not bus from Hudson Lake. Hudson Lake passengers are advised to drive to Carroll Ave. Station in Michigan City.

The following trains will not be bused between South Bend and Michigan City: eastbound Train 401 and westbound Trains 422 and 424.

The buses operate on the same schedule as the train. Once westbound passengers board a bus in South Bend they will travel to Carroll Ave. Station where they will disembark the bus and board the train that would have carried them from South Bend.

NICTD apologizes for any inconvenience associated with these weather related service issues.

We encourage passengers to sign up for our text and e-mail alert service available on our website nictd.com Passengers simply need to register by clicking the cell phone icon to stay informed of service delays and disruptions. We also post significant delays and disruptions on our home page

Passengers may also call 800-356-2079 for service updates. The RTA Travel Center is experiencing greater call volumes because of the weather and callers may encounter a busy signal.
