Alley trash pickup suspended in South Bend

Posted:

News Release From the City of South Bend:

Because of dangerously cold forecasted temperatures, the City of South Bend will suspend alley trash pickup on Monday, January 27 and Tuesday, January 28. This type of collection requires employees to be exposed to the elements. Alley trash pickups next week will occur two days later than scheduled—Monday's scheduled pickups on Wednesday and Tuesday's on Thursday.

The City will maintain its usual trash collection schedule along streets, where a mechanical device empties contents into a truck without requiring an employee to exit the vehicle.

Also, South Bend's snow parking regulations will be in effect from 6 am to 6 pm Wednesday and Thursday January 29 and 30 to facilitate safe and efficient curb-to-curb snow removal.

On Wednesday, January 29, there is no parking on east-west streets. On Thursday, January 30, there is no parking on north-south streets.

The City of South Bend has also partnered with St. Joseph County on two warming sites.

The Martin Luther King Recreation Center, 1522 W. Linden, will be open as a warming center 24 hours a day.

The O'Brien Recreation Center, 321 E Walter Street, is also open as a warming site, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Residents with questions about non-emergency services are encouraged to call 311, South Bend's citizen service line.
