An off-duty South Bend police officer was found dead at his home Wednesday morning.

South Bend Police say officers and medics were called to the home of Sgt. Mark Szweda on a report of a man not breathing.

The St. Joseph County Coroner's office says an autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of Szweda's death. Foul play is not suspected.

Police say Szweda, who was in his 40's, was an 18 year veteran of the department. He most recently worked on the afternoon shift.
