South Bend Airport posts highest traffic numbers since 2008

The final air traffic numbers are in for 2013 and they bring good news for South Bend Regional Airport.

Over 629,000 passengers used the airport to fly in and out of South Bend last year. That is an increase of nearly 7% over 2012 and the highest yearly total for the airport in over five years.

In 2008, 704,000 air travelers passed through according to the St. Joseph County Airport Authority. Airport officials are crediting the addition of new flight destinations for their numbers crawling back toward 2008-levels,.

Nonstop flights to Fort Myers/Punta Gorda on Allegiant Airlines and Denver on Frontier Airlines were added in 2013. Service to Denver has since been canceled, but South Bend Airport still offers nonstop flights to Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Orlando/Sanford, Phoenix/Mesa and Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg.
