South Bend announces new requirements to help with snow removal

Tuesday morning, South Bend Mayor, Pete Buttigieg announced a new plan to help plows clear the streets.  When the city declares a snow removal emergency, drivers are asked to park their car on an even side of the street on even days and odd side of the street on odd days.  An example of this would be on February 6, you would park your car on the side of the street with even numbered addresses.

City of South Bend Director of Streets Paul South said this is a more efficient curb-to-curb snow removal system for the city and its residents than the system that was used in the past.  "We understand you don't want to move your car a block and a half down around the street, somewhere where you can't see it," South said, "the intent is to try something a bit more friendly for the residents and a bit more user friendly on their half."

The Mayor says if you do not know when the program is in effect, the best way to find out is by calling 311.  Regulations will be in effect from for 24 hours starting at 8:00am when the program is announced.  The program will currently be in effect February 6 and 7.
