Saint Joseph High School hosts Diaper Drive

Posted:

The Saint Joseph High School Right to Life club hosted the Diaper Drive to collect disposable diapers for the Women's Care Center.

The idea came about after the Right to Life Club returned from a March for Life event in Washington D.C.. Students who donated were able to attend classes on Thursday out of uniform. It is estimated that over 24,000 diapers were collected.

Elena Gursky and Claire Jilek are both Co-Presidents for the Right to Life club. "It was pretty awesome," Gursky said. "I think the majority of our students at least brought in diapers even if they didn't dress down."

"It was just definitely amazing to see all of our students, faculty, and staff just gave to the Women's Care Center," Jilek said.

The Women's Care Center sees about half of the pregnant women in St. Joseph County. The center addresses the needs of about 100 women a day. Women who attend the center earn coupons for their various visits and appointments. Those coupons can be used to take some of the diapers.

Marian High School will also be collecting diapers as a part of a friendly competition with Saint Joseph. Saint Joseph won last year's contest.
