Shamrocks LB Williams ready to rock at ND

For a kid who just started playing football two years ago, the fact that Jhonny Williams even had the chance to sign a letter of intent to play at Notre Dame is pretty astounding.

"This is just the beginning. I can tell you that," said Williams. "There's more to come."

With three star ratings on every major college recruiting site, many would think Williams, a Berrien Springs outside linebacker, might be the least exciting prospect in Notre Dame's incoming class.

However, Williams, who has spent most of his high school career on the basketball court, says he's no where near reached his max potential.

"You know football is still new," said Williams. "I guess that's my upside, but to go to the next level and dominate I need to develop my game more."

Williams isn't the only one who feels he could be a diamond in the rough. The coaches at Notre Dame see great potential in the 6'6", 240 lb. pass rusher, who recently ran a 4.5 second 40-yard-dash.

Williams belief that he is going to get much better is by no means arrogant. The Shamrocks senior knows when he gets to campus he is going to have to work hard every day.

"I'm expecting it to be very hard," said Williams. "I expect it to make me want to give up, but I have to look at that and keep going."

Challenges are nothing new for Williams, after all he didn't even really know how to play football as a high school sophomore.

But now he's determined to get on the field for the Irish and he's going to do whatever he can to play in front of the fans at Notre Dame Stadium.

"I can't brag on myself, but I do want to live up to my expectations," said Williams. "I'm going to get in that weight room, in that nutrition room, and in that classroom and work to be the best that I can be."

Williams is still playing basketball for Berrien Springs this season. The Shamrocks play Bridgman next Wednesday.
