BELOIT (WKOW) --- Officials say baby Kayden was found alive near the interstate in Iowa where a person of interest was taken into custody yesterday.

The Police Chief of the West Branch Iowa Police Department heard the cries of Kayden while canvassing the area at 10:15 Friday morning.

Kayden was found wrapped in blankets inside of a plastic tote box.

The U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil says the baby was in the crate outside of the gas station from 5 a.m. on Thursday until 10 a.m. on Friday morning when officers found him.

Kristen Smith, sister of Kayden's mother, is charged with kidnapping Kayden.  CLICK HERE for more on her charges and the criminal complaint.

Officials say despite being found in these cold temperatures, the EMS teams say Kayden looks healthy and in great condition.

Police were canvassing this area after the sister of Kayden's mother was taken into custody near there Thursday morning.   Officials wanted to speak with her as she was at the home with the baby Wednesday night before Kayden was missing.

The baby was found on the search efforts and collaboration of the Town of Beloit Police Department, Beloit Police Department, Rock County Sheriff's Department, Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, FBI, Illinois State Police, Iowa State Patrol, and West Branch Iowa Police Department.
