The Beatles made history on The Ed Sullivan show 50 years ago

Fifty years ago, music history was made. The Beatles made their American debut on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Over 9.7 million viewers tuned in to watch the British rock band perform.

They would go on to win countless awards and sell over 600 million records world wide. As one music store owner tells us, everyone loves the Beatles.

"It's universal. Even people that are like, I only like hip hop or rap, they have a soft spot for the Beatles," says Doug Zimmerman, Orbit Music Owner.

Zimmerman has worked in record stores for 30 years and says it's extremely rare to find someone who didn't like a Beatles song.

His store is proof that the Beatles are just as relevant today as they were when they hit the American music scene in 1964.

"Records are starting to catch on again. Beatles' records are probably the records that I sell the most," says Zimmerman.

The Beatles have three top 10 albums in the iTunes rock genre.
