A 22-year-old Illinois man is in the LaPorte County Jail after Indiana State Police say he was arrested after they found 178 grams of pot in his pants.

The arrest happened Monday afternoon on the Indiana Toll Road near the LaPorte exit. State Police say a trooper stopped a taxi for a traffic violation. While talking with the three people inside, the trooper says he detected the presence of a controlled substance.

Police say a passenger, 22-year-old Justin Diedrich of Ingleside, Illinois, gave the trooper a small amount of what the tripper believed was marijuana. The trooper then gave Diedrich a pat-down, which police say revealed a large object stuffed in the back of his pants. Police say the object turned out to be a number of smaller bags with suspected marijuana, weighing in at approximately 178 grams.

Diedrich was arrested and taken to the LaPorte County Jail on a charge of Possession of Marijuana in excess of 30 grams, a Class D Felony.

The driver of the taxi was cited for the traffic violation and released.
