Where does South Bend rank on list of snowiest cities?

Posted:

It's a list we may not want to be on, the list of snowiest cities in the United States.

For the last few years, the Golden Snow Globe competition has tried to track snowfall for the top 10 cities over 100,000.

As of Tuesday, Erie, Pennsylvania is in the lead with 108.5 inches of snow.

South Bend isn't on the list, which might be due to the lack of official numbers. Unofficially, the National Weather Service is estimating 85 inches of snow have fallen in South Bend, which would put us in 4th place, just above last year's winner, Syracuse, New York. Last year, Syracuse received 115.4 inches. So far, they're only at 83.6 inches of snow.

South Bend was on the list for the winter of 2011-2012 when the city tied for 5th with Grand Rapids. South Bend was also 5th for the winter of 2010-2011.
