State revokes Mishawaka used car dealer's license

Posted:

A Mishawaka car dealership won't be doing business anymore after the Indiana Secretary of State's office revoked its license.  Secretary of State Connie Lawson says her office had received multiple complaints about Scott's Auto Sales.

Consumers said the dealership didn't give them a title after purchasing a vehicle.  Lawson said in a written statement that "Scott's Auto Sales not only failed to deliver titles, they continuously issued fraudulent interim paper plates to customers who couldn't get a license plate at the BMV to cover up their dishonest practices. In addition, the dealership failed to pay sales taxes."

The revoking of Scott's Auto Sales' license comes after a months long investigation.  In September, Lawson says the dealership shut down, with the location left abandoned with a "For Rent" sign in the window.  This happened just before the Secretary of State's office was planning to do an office inspection.

Lawson says her office was able to find evidence of the violations, and get titles to the proper owners.  "A major purchase such as buying a car is tough enough," said Lawson; "you shouldn't have to worry about getting the title. But if you do have an issue, don't hesitate to contact my office. My team has the tools and resources to help you track down the records and prove your vehicle is yours."
