Mishawaka residents heated about latest utility hike

Some local residents are getting a little heated after getting their latest electric bill.

A special meeting was held Thursday in the city of Mishawaka to answer the most important question, why they're having to pay so much.

The general manager of Mishawaka Utilities says it's not just because of the recent rate increase, which went into effect back in December.  James Schrader says increased usage it also to blame because of extremely cold temperatures the past couple months, and that can really start to add up if you live in an apartment or house that relies solely on electric.

"When you're an all one type utility household, that punch was felt pretty hard," he says.

Schrader adds he plans on working with local residents as best he can to help ease their concerns.
