South Bend fire department in need of qualified applicants

Posted:

Serving the community, helping others and becoming a local hero, you have a chance to be part of the South Bend fire department.

It's looking for new recruits, but they have to meet certain qualifications. They're pretty straight-forward. You must have a high school diploma, clean driving record and clean criminal record. You have to be in good shape, and you have to be between 21 and 35-years-old at the time you're sworn in. That's either next year or in 2016.

"Our focus is on bringing in as many quality applicants as we can," says South Bend Fire Chief Steve Cox. "We're trying also to engage veterans groups, minority groups, and we're trying to put a focus on bringing in more female applicants as well at the department."

You have until the end of May to turn in an application.

To pick one up, visit Central Fire - seven days a week - between 8am and 4pm. You can also grab it online at www.ci.south-bend.in.us/eeoc-form-firefighter-recruitment.
