Prosecutor expects extradition hearing soon for escaped convict

An extradition hearing may be held soon for a man who escaped from a Michigan prison and was caught and arrested in LaPorte County.

LaPorte County prosecutor Bob Szilagyi says Indiana's Attorney General has received a warrant from Michigan for Michael Elliot.

Police say Elliot escaped from Ionia Correctional Facility on February 2nd. Police say he carjacked a woman and held her hostage until she escaped at a gas station in Middlebury. He took off, stealing three more cars before police caught him in LaPorte County, where he is in jail.

Szilagyi says he expects an extradition hearing will happen in the next few days. The courthouse is closed for President's Day on Monday, but he expects to know more, Tuesday.
