Fashion show held to help family of young cancer victim

A fundraiser was held Saturday to help a family who lost a loved one to cancer. Eunice Pena passed away from brain cancer in November.

Elkhart Memorial students put on a fashion show in the auditorium. Even though Pena was a Elkhart Central student, the Memorial students felt doing a fundraiser was the right thing to do.

Elkhart Memorial Student Taylor Christian says, "I'm totally for other people being put out there when they fought so much. What we did with Sarah Strong, it was amazing. Now it's Eunice's turn."

While the students organized the event, several local businesses lent a hand. Elegant Designs provided the dresses while Bethza Professional Makeup Studio did the makeup for the girls.

The store's co-owner is a Elkhart Memorial grad and says that she loved helping out and hopes to do it again. "This could be like a legacy. Do a fashion show and just every year help another student or help somebody," says Bethza Seminario.

The proceeds of the fashion show will go to Eunice Pena's family as well as the Michiana Cancer Survivor Society.
