Police: Mishawaka man seriously injured at bar

Posted: Updated:

A 23-year-old Mishawaka man is in the hospital with serious injuries, and St. Joseph County Police say they're not sure what exactly happened.

The man's family called officers, saying he had been hanging out at the Hideout Lounge late Saturday night and into early Sunday morning. It's located on Chippewa Blvd.

According to the family, some of the man's friends said he was beaten. However, police have not be able to confirm that story. Sergeant Bill Redman says police believe something happened at the business, but they're still trying to figure out the details surrounding the incident.

Redman says the man was able to make it home early Sunday morning. Then around 8:00am, the man's mother says she saw blood coming from his face. He was also reportedly having trouble breathing. That's when the mother called an ambulance, and he was taken to the hospital.  The prosecutor's office said, as of this posting, the victim was listed in critical condition.

St. Joseph County Police have handed over the case. It's now in the hands of Metro Homicide.
