The mother of a missing baby found safe on February 15 was arraigned Friday on charges of Neglect of a Dependent and taking a child to a nuisance.

South Bend Police say Heather Gipperich told them she took her 8-month-old baby, Bethany, with her to buy and use heroin on February 11.  Gipperich said while getting high, she put her baby in the care of a woman named Amanda, who she had first met that night.  She told police she had been in contact with the woman on a daily basis.

Elkhart Police were able to find Amanda on Sunday and place the baby in the custody of Child Services.

Her next hearing is set for March 6 when a trial date will be set.  She is being held on $10,000 bond and has been ordered to have no contact with her child.
