Dowagiac forms new alliance to bring city together

Posted:

There is a new alliance in Dowagiac, looking to bring together community partners and people who live in the city.

It's called The CHAIN, which stands for the Community Helping Advance and Improve Neighborhoods.

The goal is to cross the lines of church, state, race and social economic status to bring citizens together.

Leaders say that the initiative is mostly youth-geared, but they also want to bring in parents to help.

The idea is to be preventative and proactive about issues in the community.

"We don't exist without the 6,000 people in this town," says Dowagiac Public Safety Director Steve Grinnewald. "So we need to make sure we understand exactly what it is that their problems are, what they need help with and address those."

If you're interested in getting involved, there is a town hall meeting Wednesday about The CHAIN. It'll start at 7:00pm at Second Baptist church on South Paul Street.
